The bootcamp involves presentations over Zoom by Casey Seiter from Techsmith and a face-to-face hands-on session where we will support you in creating your own video. Stay all day or attend only the parts you need. We will have Camtasia swag to give to those who come in person.

Faculty and staff are invited to attend the morning and/or afternoon sessions. Please so that we reserve a room that can accommodate all participants who attend in-person.

Culturally Responsive Mentoring: A New Avenue for Supporting International and Immigrant Students
As our campuses diversify, students from non-dominant cultures find themselves on campuses unprepared to support them or steeped in cultural norms of Whiteness. Culturally responsive mentoring and advising can cultivate student success or reify a 鈥渃ultural mismatch鈥 students feel when their personal norms do not match those of their institution. In this session, Emily Schell, doctoral student at Stanford's Graduate School of Education, will share the findings from her recent dissertation work on cultural mismatches in academic advising for Chinese international and immigrant students. Attendees will learn about areas of potential cultural mismatch, particularly for international and immigrant students, and identify ways to improve the cultural responsiveness of their student support.
